Empathy Four
On ascale of 1-10 (1 being the lowest) rate yourself in each of Pink’s six areas (Design, Story, Symphony, Empathy, Play, Meaning). What are your strongest areas? What are your weakest?
Give this questions some thought. Each person may need time to think and write down their rating. You do not have to reveal your ratings, but discuss insights from thinking this way.

We decided as teachers we would rank each of the six high on our levels because we feel we possess these characteristics and find them important.
Design- We create curriculums that are emotionally and intellectually engaging for students and applicable to their lives.
Story- We don’t spit out information. We teach a story or a narrative that keeps the children engaged in all subject matters.
Symphony- Lesson planning and curriculum planning is seeing the big picture and what and where you want to go with the students.
Empathy- We are constantly dealing with people and forming relationships. Being with children, you must be able to empathize where every person is coming from.
Play- Bringing laughter into lives and our classrooms.
Meaning- We teach for spiritual fulfillment and enlightenment. Otherwise we wouldn’t be here.

I think that the most helpful way to think of this is to talk about strengths and weaknesses, rather than just giving a number.
I think I am probably strongest in meaning and weakest in play. There is room for improvement everywhere…
